The Beta Pi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and its charitable arm, the Ivy Foundation of Little Rock, in conjunction with the UAMS Center for Diversity Affairs will sponsor a brunch fundraiser for the American Heart Association on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The event will be held at the UAMS College of Public Health building, room 3202, located at 4301 W. Markham Street in Little Rock. Heart disease is the number one killer of women and this event will raise awareness on the dangers of heart disease and educate attendees on methods of prevention. Speakers will be Dr. Billy Thomas, UAMS Dean of Minority Affairs, Dr. Allison Shaw-Devine, cardiologist, Keesa Smith, a heart survivor, Shannon Hendrix, nutritionist, and Marilyn Clark, Health Equity Director of the American Heart Association. Now more than ever, women must be more involved in their own healthcare. The Go Red for Women movement encourages women to take action against heart disease and to visit the doctor each year to manage their health and to use that knowledge to Learn and Live!
