Why:
The Tag Project/Executive Order 9066 exhibition combines two projects of Wendy Maruyama, head of the studio furniture program at San Diego University. Maruyama has created a compelling body of work inspired by her ancestry and the mass internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. In the Tag Project, Maruyama replicated 120,000 individual identification tags worn by internees throughout the 10 U.S. relocation camps, including two in Arkansas.
The Leaves of Grass exhibition is comprised of 53 gelatin-silver prints by American photographer Edward Weston. Weston is considered one of the great Modernist photographers of the 20th century and was a founding member of Group f/64. He was well-known for his compositional sensibility and his superb printing skills and was highly regarded for his photographs of natural forms, close-ups, nudes and landscapes.
